New derasa

Picked up this huge derasa clam yesterday of someone local. This thing is massive.
Next time I do a water change will try to get some top down shots.
you can see it compared to my 12" carpet in the last pic.

What does the shell look like? Is it smooth or have scutes? What size is the byssal hole? Local fish stores sometimes sell the wrong clam.

Regardless it is cool looking.

Now that you mention it... it does have scutes.... wasn't a local fish store was a local reefer...
So scutes means Giga ?

Are they big? Derasa can have some smaller scutes but not very big. This page is pretty good with pictures.

So on that page you cant see Giga with Scutes.
Mine has few scutes... at the edge of the shell near the mantle there is a ridge line and lower down maybe 2-3 scutes in line. Besides that its smooth.

I have 3 Fathom Hydra series hanging above tank. From the sand bed to the light is about 42 inches. I get about a 175 PAR on the sand bed and about 475PAR at top of tank.
I have another 6 of these (LED) for sale if anyone interested.
