I got into the hobby in 2013. I have been lurking here on R2R for some time and have posted on other forums infrequently. I am moving from a 90g softie tank to now having a new 120g where I want to have more "hard" corals (had hoped to do a custom 250+ but couldnt justify the cost) . I see lots of opinions on powerheads/wavemaking pumps and wanted to get some feedback from you guys. When I was considering the bigger tank, I was thinking closed loop. With this 120g I am leaning the Vortech way with their new MP40 Quiet Drive but I see the Tunze pumps have been around forever. Thoughts?

I have had both, the power and effectiveness of both is there. Tunze is tried and true with their titanium shafts and quiet operation, but you get the bulky in-tank powerhead. The vortech even quiet drive is somewhat heard because its external,, you get one directional flow, but the driver/controller is superb, and ease of battery back up option.

My opinion tends to lean towards the Tunze product line, I have owned 8 Tunze products in all and have been happy with performance.
