I am starting a new tank I got dry rock but no sand and I was wondering if I should start cycling it. I am only going to do a fish only tank and don't know if I will put sand in or not.

Most species of Damsels are hardy and cheap fish to cycle your aquarium with. They can be pretty aggressive though so you may want to take them out and return them to the store after your tank cycles. You can also use bottled live nitrifying bacteria like Fritz Turbo Start.

I have a little tiger goby in my pico. They are only 1.5" at the most long. Not to be confused with the tiger watchman goby. They stay on the rock or the sand. I have never had a problem with him jumping.

mr.watertank had a video on the same tank and I sent him a PM and he sad red headed goby, zebra goby and he has a catalina goby in his small tank. I am likeing the catalina goby

One thing to keep in mind with Catalina gobies is they do better in a temperate water environment, below 75.

i have a guy that has a catalina in a 29 gallon that for about 2 years now he has been raising the temp 1 degree a month from about 55 degreese..he's getting ready to put this little guy into his display soon actually...so catalina's are not impossible but you've gotta LOVE the fish to go through that long of a process to introduce one into a reef system

thats pretty cool, quite the dedication. would definitley suck if something happened to the little guy after all that time and effort....

That is some dedication.

I think I will get a zebra goby when my tank is cycled. I have looked them up and they seem more tolerable to hotter water

There are plenty of ways to do a fish less cycle, should be able to google it. Instead of using a damsel or chromis just have the people who recommended using fish to come over, stick there head in your tank and wait for it to cycle!! That should work!! Lol

I am getting ready to order some sand I really dont know what to get I want black sand but there are 3 that I am looking at one is a larger sand ( http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produ...thumbpage=1&list=2754,2755,2756,7163&breeds=1 ) and I dont know if the gobies will like it. One is sand like ( CaribSea Instant Aquarium Tahitian Moon Reef & Marine Substrate ) but its not live sand I know I dont need live sasnd but I am using dry rock and I have seen that its not all that good of keeping the PH stable. The 3rd one is sand like and its live ( http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produ...5494&thumbpage=1&list=4221,4220,5494&breeds=1 ). I am need of some input I know there are people out there that have use all three.

Please use a piece of raw table shrimp to cycle your tank....just think it is cruel to use live fish. IMHO

I dont plan on that I did not use them. with my other tank I used live rock and sand. I am not using live rock and don't know what sand to use.

I have ordered a 10lb of Nature's Ocean Bio-Activ Live Black Beach Sand and I will use like 5lb if that Do you guys think I can put the left overs in my other tank. My other tank has been up and running for about 2 years

Sand in and cycleing! I am going to get 2 green banded gobys for it!
