Hello everyone this is my first owning a saltwater tank but my second shot at it. I had my tank cycling for a few weeks when I realized the big mistake I made. I used water from my in-house water filter not RODI or even truly clean water. I decided to replace the entire water so I went to a local aquarium shop where I bought the proper water. The owner gave me a anemone she said I could put in the tank as a show of kindness I guess. I place it in the tank over night and now I’m wondering if it’s alive? I thought it would stick to the rock by now. Any suggestions would be awesome.

Welcome to R2R! Normally you would not add an anemone to a new tank that is not fully cycled. I am not suggesting you should know that but I would have expected the LFS to ask more questions and get a better understanding of the situation. I would encourage you encourage you to read the R2R article "The Supreme Guide to Setting Up a Saltwater Reef Aquarium".

The good news is that you found this amazing forum and now you have a great place to read, research, ask questions, and be part of a really neat community!

Welcome to reef2reef!

I would return the anemone ASAP. They do best in a mature tank. It will not survive in a newly set up tank. Act quickly to save it.

Here's a good read to get you started:
