New filter socks smell like chemicals

First of all, I just registered and hello everyone! I am running a 125g LPS dominated tank for little over a year.

question, I ordered some filter socks 200 micron from amazon and it has a strong chemical odor. I have soaked them with vinegar and cleaned with hot tap water, they still smell. So I am not sure if it’s safe to use them.

I have ordered a slightly more expensive socks else where before, but they don’t smell.

I clean mine by running then in the washing machine with just warm water and extra rinse. It'd wash off most anything trapped in them.

Got you. I am still kinda of nervous washing them in the wash machine lol.

Welcome to R2R! I agree...a pass through the washing machine (no detergent...you likely already know, but I'd be remiss if I didn't say it) should take care of things and ensure nothing ends up in your system.

The felt material maybe the problem. I would wash one in hot water in the washing machine. Let it dry for a day and see if it still smells. If it does, send them back to amazon for a refund. No use killing a tank over a $10.00 sock
