I normally do TTM, but I am using 1 of my 10 gallon tanks as a sump for another tank, so I am down to a 10g and a 20 long.

It's been a while since I added a fish.

I'm thinking about just using the 20 long for the next 6 weeks as a QT. I have Cupramine and Ich Shield (I think this is Chloriquine Phosphate, but I don't recall).

Now, if I use the Cupramine, the dose that I'd shoot for is 0.4 (2.7 ml). Would I say use 1.3ml one day, and 48 hours later use 1.4? And if I would do 5g changes use .7ml in the new water?

From an ease standpoint, if Ich Shield is indeed Chloroquine Phosphate, then I'd prefer to use that but I honestly don't recall.

Ich shield contains some amount of CP, but as it is a food you have no guarantee how much the fish is getting. If you don't have regular CP I would definitely go the Cupramine method for 30 days. I have done a single dose of Cupramine before to get to the correct levels, but it is better to go slowly over a few days, especially depending on the type of fish. You could do 0.9 a day for 3 days if you want to bring it up over three days or split it the way you said. As long as you test and make sure you hit the correct level and keep it there.

The ich shield I have is the powder.

I'm leaning toward using the Cupramine as it's all I have...or I can break down and just get another 10g tank. Petco sells something called Kordon Copper Aid, but i'm very leary of anything Petco sells, unless it's a 50W heater or an aquarium. I like the idea of adding 0.9ml every day for 3 days. Looks like a gradual increase in dosing. I have a Seachem copper test on the chance that I would use Cupramine...so that appears to be the route...unless, as I mentioned, I just get a 10g tank.

The fish being added is a Midas Blenny from Live aquaria Divers Den. Based on what I've read, I'm not even sure I need to medicate that fish, just observe for 3-4 weeks.

Just a word of caution. A few months ago I received my first order of fish online. The SG they came in at was very, very low.

Double check the bag and match the correct salt levels.

A tip I picked up was to poke a small hole in the bad and then tape it shut so the ammonia death clock does not start.

will do. I make my water at 1.025/1.026. Not a very big fan of drip acclimating shipped fish.

What do yo mean poke a small hole in the bag and then tape it shut?

poke a small hole in the bag so you can grab some of the shipping water to test what your SG is. Then tape it shut so it does not start the ammonia crash.

I run at 1.025/26 as well.

I would set your qt much lower and have saltwater and RODI water available. My last order from liveaqauria came in at 1.016! I checked it 3 times to be sure.

I wouldn't rely on ich shield as a CP source. You dont know the amount of CP included nor the purity. I suggest going the cupramine method (if you have fish that are not sensitive to copper) but gradually increase it over a period of 4-5 days, you dont want to do it too fast as it stress fish (except if you have velvet). Also regarding the SG, you can keep it low, its beneficial to certain level, but in that case make sure to lower the dosage of cupramine to keep it within safe levels. (SG ~1.019 needs around 0.4 copper)

If I make water to 1.025, and keep copper at 0.4, will that be ok? I figure, about 17 gallons of water are in the 20 long. For 5 gallons of change (probably the weekly change amount) it's 0.7ml added to the newly made water.

Using this formula found during google search: 0.381*0.4 (my copper amount) * 17.5 (gallons in the tank or gallons in water change)

Can you list the fish/size that are coming in? So we can determine QT bioload and if there are any known copper sensitive species.

Just a 2.5-3" Midas Blenny from Live Aquaria Diver Den. If I can just keep it in observation for a few weeks, that'd be ideal. But if I need to proactively treat, then I want to know the process and amounts inside and out.

Why not just do TTM using a couple of 5 gal buckets, and then transfer him into the 10 or 20 for observation?

You would just need a couple of heaters + airstones to do it. If you are comfortable doing TTM, my advice is to stick with it. ;)

I'm a fan of cupramine in this case but TTM and observation for 3 weeks might be OK as well. I worry so much about velvet these days..

I agree on the salinity and lack of CP comment as well. I would also very slowly (with multiple doses per day) increase cupramine to .45 to have a human error cushion. As far as dosing, I just dose what I think I need then begin testing. It'll always need correction and more -- so test daily.
