My wife comes home with these 2 fish small, juvenile fish I'd say. I'm guessing a Chromis but unsure. Silver bluish with yellow stripe. Any help on an ID?
Thanks

Acanthochromis polyacanthus.

I love mine! The 3 of them school with my 5 green chromis. I hope to breed them once they mature. They also turn much darker, almost black, with the vivid orange stripe when not stressed out. As they grow though, the orange stripe fades.

My wife too comes home with random additions to the tank and says, “surprise! Make it work.”
Congratulations.

FWIW these are really neat fish. They lose the orange as they grow, but they breed like cichlids. Mom and dad guard the nest, and the fry hatch much larger than most other marine fry. They do not go into the plankton like other chromis, but instead stay close to mom and dad like cichlid fry. They are apparently easy to raise on live baby brine.
