Good morning.

I don’t have a lot of fish but the ones I do have I purchased form my LFS. I don’t have a QT set up but I trust them and have not had any issues.

However, a want to get a couple that they don’t carry, so would have to go online to purchase.

Would it be worth the risk to do that without a QT?

Thx!

I wouldn’t risk it. Velvet is too common these days. You can also introduce other problems like uronema etc.

If possible set up a 10-20g QT can be done for ~$50 and save you much more. If you don’t want to treat prophylactically, observing fish for a few weeks can help prevent pathogens reaching your DT.

If that’s not feasible, try ordering from humblefish aquatics, or at the minimum divers den-like service.

Thank you.

Was wondering where some places may be best, if I decide to do it. I just don't have any place for a QT.

If you want completely quarantined fish, e-mail Bobby http://humblefishaquatics.com/index.html.

Divers Den sells conditioned fish, they apparently do some quarantine/treatment too but I’ve received sick fish from them. The good news is that their fish usually eat prepared foods which is often half the battle.

Definitely not. There are some smaller vendors who charge a mint and claim QT but you have no way to verify.

Thanks everyone. I’m going to stay with my local fish store. I’ll work with what they bring in.
