Earlier this week I lost my blackcap basslet. So I went to my LFS looking to get another one. They didn't have any but I did end up getting this beauty.

dang... I want a male sooooooooooooo bad! Everyone around here is like we will have our eyes out for you but that has been over a month with 4 different stores...

Sorry for the delete above. I made a delete versus merge error.

Back to fish talk. There have been some amazing looking reef safe fish coming in lately. It really makes me wish I owned my own house and had a large tank.

BTW, he looks really healthy!

That fish is awesome.

I really want a Blackcap Basslet but am afraid of it fighting with my Blue Assesor.

Planning on getting another Blackcap Basslet in the future?

Sweet fish Jesse......

Colin I don't think there would be much of a fight with the Blackcap, mine was mean.....To ME anyway. They are absolutly one of the prettiest fish out there....

Jesse, I think the fish is a female G. melanospilos as opposed to
G. semifasciatus (Japanese swallowtail).

The Marinecenter.com has their pictures mixed up. Semifasciatus
has a black bar on the opercular plate.

Scott Michael and wetweb seem to agree with this too.

Really doesn't matter because both species are choice and very attractive
but you certainly want to get the proper male for her.

Marine Centers pictures suck for sure.

Ordered this fish

I think it's the same fish but I'm not 100%, if it is the same then their picture is really photoshopped. Also got my Blue Assesor from them.

Health & the shipping of the fish was top notch but I wouldn't trust them to not mix up a fish.

At the LFS it was labeled Genicanthus melanospilos. I thought that was the swallowtail. So Genicanthus semifasciatus is the true swallowtail?

melanospilos = swallowtail angel
semifasciatus = Japanese swallowtail angel

I personally don't think of one being any nicer,
or more desirable than the other.

The males certainly look different though.

They are also protogynous hermaphrodites;
I had two G. bellus females, the larger turned
to male.

I finally decided to get one because of this thread.

I got mine from saltwaterfish.com, not a bad price. Gotta drop $79 for the shipping deal though.

My Blue Assesor doesn't really care for him but aggression is pretty minimal which is a good thing.
