That's a feather duster, but I'm only skilled in the zoas let's see if someone from #reefsquad, can help or call in someone that knows what may be going on!

@MermaidTail its should be fine. Yep its some type of feather worm. Your coral will grow over it.

11.18 update: happy tank! Removed some sponge and the bioballs from the filter, deep cleaned said filter and did water change.

11.20 update: Really excited! In just two days I'm noticing a cleaner tank and colors popping! I removed most of the filter sponge and all of the ceramic bioballs. Did two smaller water changes and things look great...clown is a happy little camera hog! Also added a new hammer!

12.2.16: coming up on two weeks without sponge/bio balls. Just running a bag of chemipure elite and gotta say I'm a believer- I think the media was leeching phosphates. My tank now, hasn't looked better!

12.13 update...my little nano reef is going GREAT. Everything's happy and I can see awesome color's and growth. The chalice that I got (at least I think it's a chalice?) as a crap little $10 frag is growing like a weed and getting crazy cool green spread colors around its red eyes!
