So there are two major thread areas in the DIY forum that I feel really deserve to be broken out in some way into new forums. Specifically 3d printing, and reef-pi.
For 3d-printing, the problem is that every time there is a list of 3d-printable objects, or a post about 3d-printed objects, the thread devolves into a discussion about what printer to use. I don't feel this would happen as much, if there was just a dedicated forum for 3dprinting stuff, where such posts could go, with stickies about printer recommendations, etc etc. There is also more than enough volume in this area to justify such a forum in general IMHO.
The second one is the reef-pi thread. Having a thread with 800+ posts is not useful to anyone who wants to "jump in" and try to start playing with such a thing. The longer it gets, the more of a barrier to entry it ends up being. However, I think instead of a reef-pi forum, instead we could have a more generalized thing, like DIY Microcontrollers, or DIY Electronics. Where it would cover stuff like ESP/Arduino/Reef-Pi/etc. Admittedly it would be dominated by reef-pi, but obviously there is alot of movement in that area, and it justifies having a semi-dedicated area for it.
Just my thoughts here...
