I added a foxface saturday he is stressed. The only other fish in the tank is a panther grouper which is about the same size as him. Also a longspine urchin and some snails.
ammonia nitrite 0
nitrate is between 0 and 5ppm
ph 8.1
sal 1.24
I've tried observing the two and the grouper approached it a couple times yestersay but then just turned around.
The fox was very stressed even before acclimating him to the tank. (based on his color) Figured it was just from the move but its been almost 2 days now. His color has been good a few times today but then randomly goes back to a faded/camo color. He randomly starts to swim towards the glass and pecking at it.
I am not really sure if I'm doing something wrong or if this is normal.

They change colors on the fly.. Depending on surroundings and if being bothered.. Can u shoot a pic of the two fish? I have a polleni grouper and my rabbitfish changed color maybe for the first day but once settled were fine..... Thanks.....

This pic is from this morning, probally wont be much help. The grouper is in a cave atm and the fox is hiding behind the rocks. I don't want to blast them with light, so I'll get a pic tommorow morning.

I will take a pic of mine too in morning.. We can compare..

That foxface doesn't look overly stressed. Fox faces are one of those fish that always think the world is going to end and can take a long time to settle in. Normally after a month or two they become very settled but at the moment I wouldn't worry. When you feed take a step back and watch to make sure it's feeding.

This is a good example of stressed versus normal colouration.

My Foxface changes color throughout the day and is a spaz to boot. Here he is in action:

Thats how he looked like the first day.

The second day, the fox either he would be pale, normal, or his top half brownish. Haven't seen him go for the seaweed. Here is a video, color got better but now the grouper is trying to be more territorial. Heard another fish (which I am planning on adding 2 more over the next month or so) would help diffuse the aggression but not sure if it would work.

He's trying to camouflage with the rocks... It's prob panther grouper.., bothering him possibly...

A marine beta is one of the other fish I wanted to add. I'm hoping that it would diffuse the aggresion and could keep them together. I though about a making a makeshift aclimation box with my leftover eggcrage but that just leaves no swimmimg space for the beta and probally wont solve any territory issues.
Any suggestions?

Marine betta more nocturnal... Think u need something active for during day.. Maybe a bluethroat trigger?

Ive had mine for 3 months and he is scared of his own shadow. He changes color all day.

I like the contrast between the beta and panther. The last fish would be a lionfish but I cant seem to find any (healthy) of the medium sized ones locally.

Ive looked into triggers but it wont work out once the lion is in sadly.

True... Quoyi parrot?

Those do look really nice, almost reminds me of a broomtail wrass. How are they around soft corals/invertebrates? That beak looks like it can be pretty nippy.
You mentioned active during the day... is this to help control the territory aggression or for some other reason?

From all I read quoyi parrots are reef safe... I think that will go good with rabbitfish and get him more social... Marine betta are nice but shy and come out at night more for the most part... Breaks up the rabbitfish from being the target of the grouper.... Imo. But I know there are threads about quoyi parrot being reef safe... My buddy has one in his reef..I'm fish only.....
