New frag tank and glass question

I was lucky enough to pick up 2 small glass frag tanks at a frag swap a few months ago.

i drilled both of them this weekend on the back panel and no problems (was my first time drilling)

the tanks were previously drilled on the bottom pane with a 3/4 hole which is way too small for what i want to use.


i noticed yesterday that one of the tanks cracked on the bottom pane from sitting out in the heat?


my question is, instead of tearing the one tank toatlly apart, can i just put a new bottom pane in overtop of the cracked one and silicon it together.

you can see the way it is built from the pic, the side panels do not sit on the bottom panel. what do you think.

the tanks are 2' x 2' x 11"

I think I would do it right the first time and replace. That looks like a large crack and I know I wouldn't want chanche having that much water on the floor.

Too big of a crack to gamble on not worth the headache imo

but wouldn't adding a new bottom piece over the old one take any risk away? the side pieces are not supported by the bottom pane

I would not risk it. When the tank is filled, the effects of gravity will kick in and the weight of the water, sand, and livestock will put stress on all the glass. This stress can cause the damaged pane to crack or even give away completely. If this happens, it can make all the seams structurally weak.
