Just got corals for the first time, curious if then being a tanish color is normal for the first 24hrs. They were floated for 15, drip acclimated temp stayed 2-3 degree range for 40 mins or so, were dipped for 10, rinsed with DT water then into the tank (glad i dipped some worm things came off)

what are they exactly?
Xenia, firework polyp, speckled leather, montipora all in a mid flow spot currently will move the ones that need stronger flow after giving em the night to adjust

Lol!
Guessing your light is the stock og light that came with ur tank?
Most coral you see for sale or in pictures of tanks with corals the light is saturated with actinic 420+

And filtered with an orange screen.

Hate to break it to ya but no these are not stock og lights. Filters are obvious, primary question is the colors are indeed off already know corals stress but to what degree i have no clue nor the efficient lighting for a new frag. Since i keep my lights programmed normally on a day to night cycle for my fish corals are a new thing

What lights are they then? Almost looks like the tank is just illuminated by strong room lighting, with no blue at all

Can't tell if the monti is dead or just not really lit up, the rest are alive if somewhat unhappy

Did notice the montipora has opened up again was closed earlier

Lol ok well it looked.like they were.lit under just.regular.flourescent bulbs. Not all.coral.shine bright under actinic.
Can u get individual pics.so we.can see the skin and polyp extension on each coral?
D

Ah. Well under room lighting many corals are brown, everything that fluoresces just plain stops doing it under those conditions

Ahh I see, what should be the usual lighting for a fish/coral tank? As is I have it set to just mimic a morning -> night cycle with no adjustments. Lights just go off about midnight and turn on again about 8amish.

No worries I didnt think about that, does seem all the corals are alive and got some feather dusters on a few frags. The only one that seems angry is that flopped over xenia.

There's an entire subforum here all about that, usually full spectrum across the day with a peak at noon and blue only in the morning and evening for your viewing pleasure

But depends on which light, which tank, how you want it to look, best to head to that subforum and ask there with specifics about your setup

I would think they will color back up under the right lighting after a while. Corals can turn brown without enough light. It’s possible that’s what is going on. Can’t tell for sure though.

Well I do have aquarium lights off in the pic its only ambient light from my room. Was told that new frags should have 0 aquarium lights on the first 12hrs then acclimated to a light schedule slowly keeping everything dim

I don’t turn my lights off with new pieces. Just keep them at the bottom and slowly move the pieces up that I’m going to want at higher levels to acclimate them to more light. The amount of light at the bottom of the tank shouldn’t hurt them

Good to know, I know my fish but corals are a new enemy lol bad nuff i think a frag has aptasia on it. I guess tomorrow ill set the corals up with the usual light cycle for my fish, sunrise 1hr - full spectrum most of the day, sunset, then blue lights for bout an hr then off for the night.
