Hello r2r,
I have been lurking here for sometime and between this and another forum got a ton of information.
I have set up 2 reef tanks in the past to varying degrees but ultimately failed. The first tank has what I inderstand now a bacterial bloom that was never ending probably because I could not identify it. I ended up giving the fish and corals i had away to a friend. Second tank all the fish died yet testing water parameters showed nothing obvious. I assume I moved to quickly on that one plus used some dead live rock that I probably didnt fully cure.
Anyway I bought a reef ready tank a few years ago and am in the process of getting equipment and building a stand. I have some old reef radiance leds I am going to use at startup depending how quickly I move now. I am still debating on reefbreeders or 2 kessile 360x. I will reevaluate when the time comes.
I am also looking to add an apex at somepoint in the future as well.
I think the only thing i meed to buy now is an ato system but thats not a requirement for me right away but down the road before I get livestock.
I am looking to keep a mixed reef mainly lps and soft coral. I will think about sps and clams later on but they would not be dominant.
My holding point right now is the stand. I started to build one months back but my rush to get it done, has made it so the top and bottom frame are not planar. I thought about taking a belt sander and making the whole thing planer or just starting over and slowing down and being more careful.
I also noticed the amazing stand people have built with what looks like great wood. However the stuff I have was still slightly warped even after cherry picking from the big 2. Is this a problems other have had am I being overly pickey? I also plan on putting a sheet of plywood on the top for the tank to sit on its a standard 75gallon reef ready tank. Once the stand is done I will cover it with kills complete to seal it unless there are other suggestions. I also dont want a center brace in the front due to thesize of the sump.
Well look forward to reading what other suggest or and advice given
Have a great day, week, month, and year.
Sorry for any errors typed on a phone.
