Hello,

Two days ago I bought a new anemone. I didn't do a drip acclimation, but I put the bag on the top for 20 minutes and then added a little bit of my tank water in intervals of 10 minutes. I read that it was important to turn off the powerhead for it to settle down properly. However, I forgot to turn it off and it floated around the tank a little bit, maybe 3 or 4 seconds. I carefully grabbed it and placed it on a rock. It moved, and seemed okay. After I turned on the lights, the powerhead still off, it moved under the overhanging rock and stayed there. It has been there since that first night and has not moved. When I introduced it, it looked healthy but it did have its tentacles away from the mouth meaning that I could see it. It hasn't moved, but it seems to be hosting my Black Onyx Clownfish. I'll attach a picture of it, and please tell me if its behavior is normal.

Thank you very much.

Its dazed and confused right now, so yes, there is no rhyme or reason where it sets up at the moment. Give it time to settle and it will find the sweet spot. Dont even try to affix it anywhere as they have a mind of their own. They also might set up shop for a while and the next morning be on the other side of the tank. I would leave it alone. Also keep in mind it might even sting other corals as it is looking around to set up shop.

Mine did the exact same thing (without the hosting) and stayed under the shelf rock for weeks. It finally started coming out a little bit every day and looked very bleached. After a week or two it started coloring up again and looked great! Then I went and upgraded and now both my nems are behind the rocks where I have no clue if they are alive and well or gone. You just never know what or where they are going to go... they do what makes them happy.
