I added my first soft coral to the tank today. She didn't come out till several hours later from what i was told. The family left on the moon lighting LED's till i got home. The coral is not out in bloom... Is that normal??

Yes thats normal. Sometimes they open up quick and other times they take a day or two to open.

How long has your tank been setup?

Before selling ours for more room, we grabbed a piece at the LFS and once it was in the tank it opened within a couple hours, but they usually wait until the next day when the lights come on in my experience. Their nice and bright under Lunars!!

Ya completly normal sometimes GPS will stay closed for a few days after moving it

Mine are open most of the time. If something disturbs one of the colonies it will close. Sometimes for a few minutes, sometimes for a lot more.

I have three colonies, each a different shade of green.

I had my gsp stay closed for almost a week when I bought it it had just came in from shipping but now looks great.

Good choice for a first coral and congrats! It will open eventually. It was also the first coral I got when I got started. This stuff grows like the grass in your yard! Very easy to take care of. Good luck in the future!

Thanks to everyone for the feedback.

The tank has been set up just over two months now. I figured it might take a few days for it to open back up. When i woke up this morning it was fully retracted. Once i turned on the light i could see a few of them opening up.

I saw this little frag at the LFS store and she looked great in full bloom. Most of their small frags are $15. Is this price decent?

Seems like a fair price to me.

When I bought my first one (along with a blue Snowflake Polyp colony) I was warned that both critters would take over a tank.

The Green Star Polyps are a bit slower than the Snowflakes.

There's three green star polyp colonies and one blue Snowflake colony in this picture.

This is the back wall of my nano cube. I was still growing it out. It seems to completely retract most nights and is usually fully out after an hour of the lights coming on. I don't think you've got anything to worry about. Gsp is really hardy.

Wow! Thats pretty impressive! I like it!

Im learning. I think its just knowing what to expect even after doing some research wether its fish or corals. Fun fun fun!

Its been almost an hour since i turned on the lights. Most of its branches are out.

That is a killer look. I always wanted to do a bare bottom and let gsp cover it.

thats really pretty, i was going to do that when i had my tank in maine....but couldnt because was moving to SC and didnt want to disturb it...i will do this to the back wall at some point when completely settled in my own home here

Hello Rob,

Yes it's been opening just fine. I love it!! How long do you think it takes for them to attach to my rock? I found my coral at the bottom of my tank the other morning, thankfully face up. I believe my hermit crab knocked it off.
