New growth colors

Maybe this has already been discussed in details so forgive me in advance if that is the case.

I’ve seen a lot of info on color changes due to lighting but never saw it discussed why many corals new growth shows drastically different colors than established tissue. For example many chalices and montiporas exhibit this behavior. A couple examples below:

It’s really noticeable on one of my acro colonies. The new growth is bright green, then it transitions to a dark purple color as it ages.
