New growth on live Rock

This new growth started growing 3-4 months ago and was a gray color.. It's approx. 2.5 inches. It has started to change into a blue/purple color the past month and has gotten a little bigger..

It has a somewhat spongy feeling to it and my gut says some type of sponge.

Any idea's of what it could be?? Its the blueish growth in the center of the attached picture..
