Whats going on everyone. Im new to the hobby, new to R2R and had a question about water I can use in my aquarium. A little background info first. I already made the mistake of using tap with a conditioner and lets just say i won't be doing that again.

It took me a while to find a LFS that sells pre mixed saltwater and RODI. The only problem is that every time I test it, it tests at 1.015 salinity and I always end up having to add more salt to bring it up to the reccomended 1.025. Another thing is I dont really know what salt hes using and if its any good to begin with. Its a little mom and pop shop.

Now to my question: Where I work, we have a DI system. We use it to give us clean water because of the super small water lines we use for our plasma cutters. Its a very complex system not your typical 5-step RODI system. If theres any impurities in the water the lines would surely clog up. If its not reverse osmosis and just de-ionized water, is it still reef safe? I would be awesome if it was. Id like to mix my own salt water that way i know exacly what im putting in my tank. This thing gives you gallons on gallons on demand. Heres a pic of the system.

Thanks for the reply guys. I guess I was just wondering if the reverse osmosis part of the filtration did something specific to the water and if was actually needed. Will test for sure!

Nice!!

The RO just removes impurities and particulate (VERY fine particulate) from the water. If you get 0TDS with just DI, there is no need for the RO. The downside is that DI resin becomes exhausted fairly fast and needs to be replaced more often.

Good info thank you! I know these containers and filters get inspected/serviced once a month by Evoqua the company that we purchased the system from. Ill be sure to ask the tech if they replace the resin regularly. Hes due to come in in a few days per my manager.
