Hello to all on this Forum.
My name is Tim, I'm Australian but live in the Philippines with my wife and 5 kids. We used to live in Singapore which is where I got the bug for Reef Keeping. Since moving here to the Philippines 3 years ago I've been longing for the time I can have my own tank again and hopefully in the next few months this will be happening with us finally building our own house. My intention is to have a tank built as a divider wall while we are in the build faze of the house so its ready to go once the house is completed, I'm going over plans to run pipe work in the floor for water changes and extra filtration tank outside along with the power outlets so once completed the tank looks like it belongs and not an Haddon after thought.
I first took up the hobby in 2008 with a small 2x2x2 foot tank in Singapore, this slowly progressed to a 6x2.5x2.5 foot tank the last year we were in Singapore, it was sad to have to decor my tank when we left and the bug is still strong for me to start again only this time with my dream tank knowing I will not need to worry about moving and can have what I want.
My new tank will be a slow progression as I'm going big with no compromise of equipment or quality so it may take a while to get things completely up and running but the end result will be just what I want.
My new tank dimensions will be approx 10x3x2.5 foot with below sump tank. I intend to also have a saltwater pond outside for water changes, growing corals, clams, starter tank for new livestock etc.....I'm still in the process of working out the details and equipment needed. As I said this is a dream setup and no compromise on anything so may take a while to see it all together.
The location of our house is quite remote so stocking will be difficult. It is right on the beach with access to very clean salt water and some livestock, its going to be a big learning curve and I'm looking forward to the adventure, if anyone else here has experience with using fresh salt water from the ocean or has a similar setup I'm very open to suggestions and advise. As things progress I'll post here with drawings and photos.....just be prepared for a long wait between posts. Hoping that by the end of the year we will ready to at least have water cycling underway.
Thanks for allowing me to join and learn from everyone else here.
Cheers
Tim
