Hi,

setting up my first reef tank. had a fish only tank about 16 years ago but my son (then a toddler) wanted to climb it. so it had to go. he is in college now and I have always wanted another tank, SO I just started setting up a 56 column (not ideal I know but it fits in the space I have) So far I have the live rock and the aragonite Sand. Just waiting for the tank to cycle before adding anything else. My rock cam with some nice mushrooms and some xenia. I was wondering if it was possible to keep them alive during the cycling process? it would be nice to keep them

As far as your question is concerned I would say yes chances are good. I say this because your rock is already live and chances are you want have much of a cycle. How much rock did you have that is live?

55lbs probably should have had more but that's all my pocketbook.....and my wife ...would allow hehe

55 lbs of rock sounds like a good amount to me. And I would also think that your cycle will be short because you have a lot of the nitrifying bacteria needed on the live rock, and those are hardy corals also. Chances are good but it's hard to say for sure. I would put some money on them living :)

Hello and welcome to r2r. I agree with what has been said the chances of the xenia and mushrooms making it are very likely. Look forward to updates as your tank progresses.

Hi there!! Welcome to R2R and back to the hobby!! Glad to have ya!!

Hi welcome to r2r!!! The xenia and mushrooms will most likely make it through the cycle. Soon enough you'll probably be complaining that the xenia is a weed. Don't forget we love pics!!!

welcome to r2r glad to have you back in the hobbt would love to see pics

Welcome back to the hobby and welcome back to R2R. As others mentioned, you shouldn't have a problem keeping the mushrooms or xenia alive. With that amount of live rock you cycle occur a little quicker, but take your time before adding too much livestock at once.

What direction are you going with your tank? SPS, LPS, Mixed?

Post pictures, we love those!

Hi Larry and welcome to the site. Like many, I too feel that chances are good that they will survive. However be careful with the Xenia as they can grow like weeds. Good luck and post some pics
