New Gyre xf250 is creating a sandstorm

Well you heard it here folks I got a new gyre in a 55gallon 4ft tank and it is creating a sandstorm at 20% any ideas on how to combat tis. Along with that The clowns are making it even worse by creating there own little sandstorm. Corals keep getting sand on them and I do not know how to get the sand to settle so the gyre will quit moving it around back onto corals. Any tips appreciated.

Small grain sand is a PIA... I know, because I had/have the same problem..

2 choices really, remove and replace the sand, or.... Grin and bear it..

well guess I got to grin and bear haha do you think turing the pump off and letting the sand settle will help?

I'm started removing the Oolite sand from my tank a little at a time.. Still have quite a bit, but when my powerheads cycle up, sandstorm...

Eventually, the sand will settle into spots not being blasted. You may end up with bare spots, but.... The price to be paid I suppose.

Get a 5 lbs crushed coral bag, and sprinkle by hand some on the opposite side of the pump, by the glass, where the wave comes back down pushing sand away. I did that in my tank and it worked fine. Thats a cheap solution,I wish we could increase the intensity by 5%, but Maxpect didt think about that, I guess

It is not digging on the other side it seems to me the Gyre hits the middle of the tank and then hits some unknown foce to make half of it dive down and then the other half hit the end of the tank. Any suggestions on how to fix that. If i can get the whole wave to hit the end instead of splitting I would not have the sand problem.

It's a little big for your tank volume. It's probably hitting the turbulence from the opposite glass and directing downwards. I have two xf250' and if I'm not running them in anti-synch they do the same thing.

Try the gradual surge mode. You can play with the ramp up/ramp down and length of time to allow some of the current to dissapate before the next surge. It might help.

Consider the gyre is too big for that size tank. Ever tried bare bottom? It might work out for You.

Take all the sand out. Use the largest hose you have and just siphon it out. You can collect all the water in a Brute let it settle and add the water back.

Flow more important than sand.

bif has a good idea. maybe take out a little at a time. Maybe a little sand will remain & not blow all over the place. I have 2 gyre 250's on my 180. They blow the sand all over in this 6 ft tank.

Over time the sand will clump some. I have 3 mp40s 2 mp10's and my m1 cranked with fine sand. it took about 6 months b4 I could crank the flow and let the sand settle where it wants

But more expensive...anyways I think my problem is not the pump persay I think it is the two clowns who keep digging in the sand. They really want to be a wrasse I guess.
Anyways If they are the ones putting sand into suspension I really cannot fix that.

Maybe have it do short pulses that will make it alot less strong
