I had to put off my 90 gal tank but I am now ready but still have a lot of questions:

1- water changed, i see people post they have 2 buckets 1 with rodi water and another with rodi/salt. so when you take out the 10-20% whatever you take out, Do i have to mix salt and make sure it is same lvl as DT ?

2- When ready, it is best to medicate fish them put in QT tank? or acclimate and then into DT ?

1 - If you take salt water out, you must put salt water back in and it is best to try to match the DT. The bucket of rodi water is to make up for evaporation. That is why most reefers have 1 container of each.

2 - Hotly debated topic. For new reefers I recommend medicating them in a QT prior to putting them in a DT. If possible, match your QT salinity to your fish supplier. That way you can temperature acclimate and just add them to the QT. You can then slowly adjust your QT salinity to match your DT (and temperature) and take them straight out of your QT into your DT when ready.

As stated above, the plain RODi bucket is to replenish water that has evaporated over the course of a day...you'll probably need to replenish at least one gallon per day to keep your salinity in check. I actually use a 7 gallon water container used for camping. It has a valve built in so no contaminants get in, got it at walmart. pretty soon you"ll get tired of doing this and decide to buy an Auto top off system

Not sold on ato. I read lots of mistakes happening with ato. I will deal with manual for a while see how it goes.

If you got the right ATO it's a no brainer but of course manual works too till you go out od town.
Keeping the NSW at a steady point is a good way to start keeping a balance and keeping a balance is 99.9% of a successful reef tank.

So what ato would you recommend?
