I had a 45 gallon cube tank a year or so ago that I had to get rid of because I joined the Navy and am back at it. I decided to go with a 16 gallon biocube led because it would be a simple move for when that time comes. Stationed in Pensacola Fl for flight school so I will be moving a lot in the future. Tank is in the middle of the cycle now I started with
16 gallon biocube
100 watt heater
12lbs BRS rock
1 lb live rock from local shop
RW-2
Upgraded return pump to 220gph Rio pump
I would love some recommendations on how many fish would be suitable for this tank I was thinking a clownfish pair, fire fish, and a candy cane go by pair. Any input on anything would be much appreciated!

Thank you for your service to our country. We have a "nano forum" here that can be of great help. Enjoy your new tank and thank you again for your sacrifice and service.

Awesome, thank you, and I will check it out.

Hate to say it but that is too many fish for a tank that small. If you do clowns stick with Occ (ie Nemo variant) or Percula as they are the smallest and least aggressive of the species. I would do a pair of clownfish and a single small goby and that's it for fish. You could do a cleaner shrimp as well if you want something colorful and useful.

Nice looking nano tank, looking forward to seeing more.

And thank you for your service. :)

Personally I am not a fan of the Firefish/Dartfish. They were one of my favorites when I first started looking due to their beautiful colors, peaceful demeanor and their small size/ability to fit in a small tank. I got a Purple Firefish and a Scissortail Dartfish and almost immediately I regretted it. They spent a good portion of their days hiding away in their burrows/caves and were the first fish to be bullied by new tank mates (Yes, in a tank of that size it is almost guaranteed that the clownfish will bully a firefish). I agree that a single Goby combined with a pair of small clowns will give you the best amount of activity and color for your tank and because the Goby is a bottom dweller it is much less likely to run afoul of the clownfish's territorial issues. Don't let the websites fool you. All clownfish are territorial/semi-aggressive to some degree. The Occ variety and Percula are just on the lower end of that spectrum. On that note, I would recommend adding the Goby first and the clownfish last and letting the goby establish himself first. It also ensures you checking out the conditions of your young tank while risking only one fish.
