Your heater for 60g should be anywhere from 200 to 300W.

I've also had a P. Leopoldi and a fire eel, and A LOT of cichlids.

Saltwater has been a dream forever though so I'm beyond pumped to finally be able to start the journey.


I've got one main question now, maybe I can get an answer here instead of making a new post; What size heater to heat ~60g system to 76-77F when ambient temperature is 60F-68F and can it/they be placed into the sump which I'm assuming will only have 10-20 gallons of water depending on the size (it's hard to tell from the photo and haven't cared enough to ask because it's a deal either way)

Hi Josh and Welcome! Glad you joined. You probably don't like the idea of seeing heater, but since my tank main returns pumps are off so often when feeding pods, filter feeder foods, cleaning, that I'd not be comfortable if my heaters (2 for redundancy) were in sump... but that is just me so I'll defer to others. If you don't get answers you like here, there is also the other area of Forum... but yes it would mean make a few clicks including they 'paste' clicks to ask question over there. Good luck to you!

Have you considered starting your build thread? I found its a great place to document my tank's evolution for myself. I started tank first then joined, so I'm still finding myself going back collecting pictures & updating historically as well as current state. Once you create your first post in your thread and link it to your account, they will give you build badge (look left, under my ID)

Man, I swear I only got half the notifications for this topic and not in time. Lol There are too many posts to reply to at this point but I sincerely thank all of you for the warm welcome and tips. I’ve been trolling here for a bit, trying to absorb any knowledge I found while digging into what I needed and DON’T NEED (aiptasia) for a mixed reef tank.

Thank you! I’m not a huge fan of seeing the heaters but my back panel is black, the heaters have a black protective cover and I might be able to sneak them behind some rock and hopefully be more than less out of the view, turns out the setup I bought have a 200w finnex titanium/w controller so I’m going to run that and see if it’s at least good enough to cycle with and get me going sooner. I’ve adopted a coulle projects at the same time; pythons and saltwater, both of which have me a little obsessed, so my build is taking longer than I’d hope but I have indeed posted a thread, I should have a banner but maybe it doesn’t show up? Idk.
