New here from Central Florida

Welcome r2r.png

Hi everyone. I am getting back into the hobby after 12 years out.
We have a 75g that was purchased from someone that had it running 15+ years. We acquired the live rock and sand.
The rest of the equipment was old, so we bought a new AquaticLife HM Electronics Edge Marine Coral Reef LED light, a new Bashsea 24-10-14 Rimless Bio Refugium Sump, and a new Simplicity 1200 skimmer.

It has been running over a month now. There are some "easy" corals and fish thriving well. Now I am looking to fill it our more a little at a time.

I still have a lot to learn and am still making rookie mistakes. I look forward to bouncing some questions of the experts here.

Since you asked...here are some pics. Of course my best tank mates decided to get camera shy. By the weekend I should have the last of most my additions for now. Then it will be just waiting for things to grow. Also waiting to find the right hammer and torch.

Kind of like this? The worst.

Obviously pictures don't lie. I have never seen evidence in any of the tanks that I have that Emeralds have caused any damage, understanding I don't have 24 hour night time video surveillance (like my wife has to figure out what is grabbing an occasion hen at night...) but clearly they can and do. But I also don't have a spot of bubble algae in any tank EXCEPT in places they can't reach.

Will continue to follow my approach to occasionally add a sexed EC to the display, males in the sump or the horse trough, females in the tank, but I will cease in suggesting them as a control particularly in posts that beginners read.

Of course that's just my opinion and I could be wrong - smile

Welcome! Glad you joined.

Have you considered starting your build thread? I found its a great place to document my tank's evolution for myself. I started tank first then joined, so I'm still finding myself going back collecting pictures & updating historically as well as current state. Once you create your first post in your thread and link it to your account, they will give you build badge (look left, under my ID)

This might help you find people local to you:

This is a good reference book type online article I still review:
