Do you find that your wild-collected specimens encrust a lot before they gain verticle growth? I ask because this is my experience.

My experience is they go both directions equally. I have one colony that just got thicker and then 8 weeks later started to encrust. This colony browned out a few weeks after adding it due to a Alk swing.
I got onto it quick though and has gained 80% of it's green colour back after only 17 days.
