rick is building the sump and trust me it is all custom. should be ready for pickup Saturday.
think i will call this project critical mass. lol.
definition for those that dont know.
When a nuclear chain reaction in a mass of fissile material is self-sustaining, the mass is said to be in a critical state in which there is no increase or decrease in power, temperature or neutron population.

hahaha i wasnt sure what it meant either, just thought it sounded good. i think i was suppose to learn that in like 6th grade. if i would have payed attention.

Lookin good so far! Did you spray paint your PVC overflow?

yes i used krylon fusion it dries inert. i did the same thing on my old one and had no problems. give it a week to dry completely and rinse it off really well. the paint is dry in a few hours but takes longer to fully harden

Lookin' good! Can't wait to see its progress!

Have you thought about drilling the tank? Glass holes kit would be great on a tank like this. This coming from a guy who is sumpless.. :xd:

i thought of drilling it but it only cost $10 to build the overflow. if you take your time with it it really doesnt look bad at all.

I would be worried about toxins leaching into the tank.

I've used pvc overflows for almost a year without fails. Also painted mine in krylon I only waited 24 hours no problems from it. I do have a tip tho. On the intake if you put a T at the top and cover the holes with vynl gutter guard and zip tie it on. It looks very nice. Prevents that suction sound caps with holes makes. And prevents fish/snails from going in or clogging. Especially clogging since with a T there's 2 holes so if one does get blocked somehow water still goes in other side.

People have been using krylon fusion to paint various things for tanks for years without any problems

not sure if it shows in the pics, but i took a cap and cut slits in it and put it on the top of the overflow. did this on my last one and have no problems.
also i havent ever noticed any slurping sound. only the sound of water spilling in like a trickling noise, not very loud though.

i took more pics but nothing really different just filled with cloudy water from the sand. i did use a mix of black and white sand. i will update with pics when water clears.

this is a bummer. i wont be setting up the new tank just yet. got to the new house after spending the day getting the last aquarium supplies i needed and found the air conditoner had froze up(for the second time this week). called the land lord and got the run around about it then she told me i could have my money back if i didnt like it. so i told her i will pick it up tomorow. now i have to find a new place sucks cause i really liked this one, think i will rent an apartment instead.:cry:
