I started my new tank 12/10/18, since then i have added 15lbs live rock, 25lbs dry rock, 40lbs of live sand.

80 gallon deep blue rimless
40g Breeder sump with no baffles
4in filter sock
Reef octopus 110int
950gph return pump
Aquatic life hybrid t5 led combo

I use a vertex 100gpd rodi unit most psi i get is 30 on a good day and lowest is 26psi.

My sand bed is turning brown, my rocks are also turning brown along with bubbles on my sandbed and rocks.

I use an API master test kit and since beginning of tank 8.2ph, 0ppm ammonia, nitrite, nitrate. I have added Microbacter7 for two weeks and i have lots of hydroid jellyfish for some reason, 1 aptasia, and 2 clownfish all living well.

Did i miss the cycle or is this tank just not going to cycle? I overfeed pellets and frozen mysis it seems. Also my glass is turning brown and the rocks do have a hair like algae thing on them.

My skimmer will pull skimmate from the tank and needs drained once every two weeks.

I have not finished my stand yet but can i remove the two front angle braces from the stand without the fear of collapse.

Ammonia reads 0ppm on the api test kit. Have not had a single reading of ammonia since starting the tank even with heavy feeding.

Still reading 0ppm ammonia, nitrite, nitrate on API master test kit. Could my kit possibly be faulty?

Frag swapper is 2 weeks away and i would like to add some zoas or soft corals but not if my tank wont cycle. 2 maroon clowns are doing great and i do not have a clean up crew yet.

Rock and sand covered in algae and bubbles. Is it possible for the bubbles and algae without a hint of a cycle.

I just solve my brown bubble sand by replacing my pumps for 2 Gyre pumps, they blast everything, the send is white and my live stock love it. (150 gal only run at 60% each).
I think you don't have enough flow in your tank, that causing dead spots

Did you see any reading of nitrate ammonia or nitrite when you had bubbles?

I can get rid of the bubbles but the frustrating thing is no readings or any hint of a biological cycle on a test kit.

I think most rodi need 60psi. I would check you manual. I bet your going to need a booster like mentioned above. You may not had a very large cycle with lr and ls. Small enough you could have missed it. Your tank is still very young looks like new tank uglies. Diatoms most likely.

I would recommend getting better test kits. The APIs are good for a general idea but Rea Sea or Salifert will the better option.

- How did you cycle your tank?
- What’s your TDS on your RODI water?
- What’s your Phosphate reading?
- Were your lights on during cycle and how long are they on for now/light cycle?
- How much are you feeding your pair of clowns a day?

Diatoms which are “dusty” brown algae and are caused by silicates. This is pretty common with new tanks. Dino’s are usually snot like and have bubbles. These are usually a bit harder to get rid of. Check out the algae section of the forum.

You DO want some nitrates and Phosphate. With both being at zero you will get some unwanted algae such as Dinos. With you having GHA you can pick up a clean up crew and/or a lawnmower blenny or a yellow tang or something similar to keep it in check. Once they clean your tank of GHA they will require supplemental feeding via nori sheets

from my exp API test kit are not that great. I'm not sure if have enough rocks in your tank so say 1.5lb X gallon. other currect me if I am wrong.
my ammonia and Nitrite are 0. I keep my nitrate at 10 ppm, no other special reading with time of the bubbles
