New Kole Tang has ich.

Hey guys, this is my first post on this forum!

So, my tank has been setup for 3-4 months. It is an 80 gallon half circle. I got a new Kole Tang from Vivid on Sunday last night i noticed he has ich! I always soak all my fishes food in garlic, is there anything else i should do? He is still eating and i see him picking at rocks all day. I have been feeding mysis and brine (every other day it switches) So any thoughts or answer would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I would try to get it into a QT. Treat with hyposalinity or a copper based med. Just make sure you do not use copper in your main tank, in case you didn't already know.

I mix a product from seachem called metronidazole with my food. Works for me in keeping my fish ich free. Rather than treating the water column or qting, just simply treat the fish.

been there done it,just got rid of mine on the hippo,well not really got rid cause its always in the tank unless the tank goes fish less for 2 months,I wouldn't catch him as long as hes eating, It would cause more stress on him then its worth.Soak food in selcon and just keep him eating..also cleaner shrimp or neon gobie/cleaner wrasse would help...Some people dont like using UV sterilizers but i ran mine for the 2 weeks he had it and now its gone,just make sure the flow thru it is slow...Good luck and keep him stressless and eating...

Take him out yesterday qt him and copper him take your rock out and vinegar it all recycle it, buy new sand. Let your tank re-adjust. Obviously put the other fish in qt with tang. This is what I would do to avoid life long problems welcome to the hobby.

when fish get ich its always bad water quality have it tested by your local pet store to check your test results imo your tank is to new not 100% cycled so its gonna happen take the fish back to the store let them hold it til you fix the water problem

i disagree, "when fish get ich its ALWAYS bad water quality" there can be many factors that can cause fish to get ich other then bad water quality, ie stress from shipping and aggression and many others, especially with tangs. and you would need more information before assuming that the tank hasn't been cycled. I have added fish acouple days after setting up a new tank with "cured live rock". i also would not redo everything and it can be quite annoying for people to say, start all over and then say "welcome to the hobby." LOL.

My suggestion would be since you already have the tang in a QT go ahead and continue to feed and monitor the fish, also offer a better variety especially algae based foods, you can also try using garlic and selcon to boost immunity and keep the fish in qt for a minimum of 6 weeks, if the ich does not clear then treat with hyposalinity, alot of good thread on how to on the web. and to make an accurate suggestion with your DT you need to provide more information starting with water parameters and live stock. good luck and be sure to ask more questions! +1 on the Quarantine. I learned the hard way (as most of us have) to always quarantine new livestock. Much easier to fix issues before putting them in a tank and risking infecting everyone, and trying to catch them all out. I'v had good luck treating my fish and leaving my display tank fishless for 4 weeks. Others will say longer, but for me 4 weeks has worked. Metradiazonal only treats intestinal worms, so I question its ability to fight ich, and garlic really only enhances appetite. I haven't read anything about its healing properties although some do believe that. I'm not saying it does or doesn't, I just haven't seen it work that way. I do reguarly use garlic on my food source to my fish, to the tune of about once a month. Good luck, as ich really sucks to deal with.

Nothing to do with quality of water..
I had perfect quality of water when i added the hippo ,what he @hit so much my water got bad...I dont think so..
