New Leather Coral Losing its Base

I got a new Toadstool Leather Coral from a coworker who is dismantling his tank. It was doing pretty good there. When he gave it to me, it was attached to a small piece of slate that I am guessing he somehow cut off from his rock, so like I do with most of my corals, I removed it from the rock and put it on my own. It had a pretty big base (foot?) when I first had it. I tried keeping it in this crevice in my rock where I think it would be really nice but even though I was using reef glue (cyanoacrylate), it would fall out overnight. I tried about 3-4 more times to keep it in place, putting glue in different spots to see if that would work. I think the glue may have irritated it or something because now the base is almost gone, at least relative to when I first got it. It’s only about an inch-inch and a half vs the 3 or so it originally was. Is this my fault? Is it recoverable? The coral still has its color, it looks fine, but it has not opened up since I got it. I am not using anymore glue, I found a better place for it

pH: 8.0
Salinity: 33 ppt
Nitrate: 5 ppm
Phosphate: Too low to be measured with the RedSea phosphate test, so lets say 0
Tank age: Almost 3 months
Tank inhabitants: 4 Blue-Leg Hermits, 9 Trochus Snails, 1 Pistol Shrimp. I had a Clown Goby, Royal Gramma, and Yellow Watchman Goby but I have no idea what happened to them. I havent seen them at all but I don’t think they’re dead because my nutrients are in check and I don’t have any algae

You can’t glue softies especially leathers unless they have attached themselves to a piece of substrate.
Attach your leather with an elastic band to a piece of rock and it with attach itself over time.
