New Leopard Wrasse - Should I be worried?

Hi all, picked up an Ornate Leopard wrasse last Friday. When I added her, she stayed out for about an hour then went into the sand. Day two, Sat, she came out all day and I observed her picking at pods on the rocks, and did not see any aggression from other fish in the tank. Day three, four, and now five, she stayed in the sand. Should I be worried?

Don’t look for her. That will stress her out more. Not uncommon for them to bury for multiple days. It might be an issue- it might not- but it’s best to let it ride.

Understood and will hold off on the temptation to dig. At what point though should I start to worry? I'm assuming she came out filled her belly with pods, then went into hiding for a while until she gets completely acclimated.

I’ve heard of them coming out after 10days. Are there tankmates?

The black leopard is a real softy, but completely understand things could change in a heartbeat. She was my initial concern, but they actually hung out next to each other for the few hours I observed.

Look at parameters. Recommended:

Temp 77-79
salinity 1.025
ph 8.1=8.3
Phosphate < .04
nitrate < .04
ammonia < .03

I wouldn't worry about it for now. I bought a male and female pair of leopard wrasses and the female disappeared for three weeks before I saw her. I though she was a goner for sure. Sure enough, she was just there one day and I have had her for almost five years now.

Don't worry, it's not unusual for sand burying wrasses to disappear for days/weeks when first introduced. Different time zone causes them to do that.

Leopards can be touch and go for a while .... I always worry about a new one. Not unusual for a new one to be out initially and then bury for a while. Longer it buries the poorer the prognosis though.

Another day, no signs of her..
Tested water for ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates, no changes. Also I understand when ORP shows a sudden drop, a fish usually dies. No change in ORP except the normal pattern since adding her.

after I posted yesterday, noticed ORP had that sudden drop. This morning, hermits were enjoying an expensive snack.

I’ve had sand dwelling wrasse disappear for a week before only to just pop out when you were sure they were dead
