Hello,
So I got a new light for my nano. I got a prime 16hd. It’s set up and running. I have it starting at 30% acclimation that will ramp up to just 60% in 30 days. Probably going to change the lighting schedule here in the next day or soits just on the default still. Looks great but my fish hate the new light. So that’s my question. Is it normal for a fish to freak out with the addition of a new light? If I turn off the light he swims around but hides near the sand when I turn it back on. The light does produce a ton more shimmer and moving shadows then my old light and is 3 times more powerful. Photo with light on and one with my hand covering it and he is starting to swim after just 5 seconds of shadow.

Sometimes fish are scared of brighter lights initially but I wouldn’t expect it to happen to a clownfish or from a prime, maybe try turning it on at 1% for example and slowly ramping up if you have no coral, are there plenty of hiding places and any other fish?

Your fish will adapt to the new light. They’ll get used to the shimmer that you mentioned and in a few days everything will be back to normal.

Thanks for the replies. I did end up turning it way down. A couple hours later he was swimming and even took a bit of food. Still not happy but getting better. He is the only fish and there is coral. So at some point he’s just gotta get over it because I have to get the light back up to at least 30% within a couple days.

I'm also running into this issue with the addition of a new Kessil 160. As soon as it turns on all of my fish dart into caves. It has been like this for a few days now. Hopefully over time they'll adjust.

They did. Took a couple weeks for them to get over it but everyone is out and about as long as the kids aren’t running in front of the tank. I have the lights all the way up now and there still fine. The blue threw off there feeding a bit to but they find there food just fine now.
