I'm a t5 person, but if I was going to buy led I would go with the Chinese black box just like you have. I really don't know why but in my experiences the people doing tank maintenence for a living don't really know as much as they think they do. I'm not saying this guy doesn't know his stuff. They typically are stuck on old beliefs such as oversized skimmers (the bigger the better), uv sterilizers etc. Something else to remember is that they do want to make their job as easy as possible. Some equipment that is completely unnecessary can help with that.

There is nothing wrong with asking questions lol. Ok set up my tank september 29 2013 @630 pm. I was using a t5 strip. I researched so much i lost sleep for a week lol. I searched snd found forum on the reef radiance Lumentek pro 120. I said ok i will try. I Emailed rick december about his recommendation for the light. I bought 1 lumentek pro 120 dember 31st and got it january 30 because there was a delay in his shipments. I said ok because i already told him i was running t5. I got my light, programed it an to mimic sunrise sun set and that, and never touched it since.

I'm runniing t5s currently. With great growth on all coral types. But the colors just don't pop I've tried all types of bulbs. I want that pop. What bulbs do you run? I don't think he would be running a maitenence biz for two decades without being succesful. But we will see what comes of it. If the light performs as you guys say I will teach him.;-) and he is not trying to sell me anything. "Unnecassary equipment"

so you took the t5 off and replaced it with the lumatek at the beginning of feb.14.. and that's the only light on there since?

Honestly i could not justify 750 dollars for a led light and 300 dollar for a powerhead. This is a hobby to me not a kidney. I love the hobby and i want it to grow, however i am seeing too many people with no experience on products giving people advise on them and saying " oh yes this is the best product and never used it themselves". If i listened to them i would of never got into reefing.

I couldn't agree more

I'm using 6 bulb t5 on a 29 (3×ATI actinic and 3×ati blue+) and a 6 bulb t5 on a 40 (4×ati blue+, 1 ati purple+, 1 ati coral+)

Here are some growth shots, 7 months running my RR LumenTek Pro180. Sorry for the blueness, taken with my iPhone. :) Keep in mind, lights are only a part of happy, healthy corals!!!
I ran T5HO's for 3yrs. Upgraded to a 40B and bought the LumenTek to go with it. No other lighting is used and from the look of my corals, NO other light is needed.

Yes i took off the t5 and never put them back on. Honestly i gave the t5 to a friend for free. I told him use them and when you ready get something that you can afford later down the line. That's what this hobby is all about, helping each other, educating one another, conserving the reef, the energy we use, and making this hobby prosperous. It's such s beautiful. I love it

Beautiful shot pete polyp. This is how i look at this hobby. If you are system for for you then stick with what works for you. If you are using t5 and it works awesome. If you are using led's and it work for you awesome. But and this at Wiz, don't let someone tell you to buy unnecessary things or discourage you from trying something different. I am building my 220 gallon reef tank 72x24x30 and guess what i will be using as a light.... 4 of rick reef radiance 165p+. I seen first hand what his lights can do

I know there are more pricier led light system out there but i can light my whole tank for the price of one radion. If i want to see thunder storms and clouds, i just look outside my windows when it's raining hard lol

Thankyou! That's the info I need. Finally. Length of time and all lights used. So the lumatek is defanitly good for at least 7 months. All by itself. That's awsome. Its made by reef radiance? How does it compare to the dm-165+? I have a 40b display as well! Getting excited again. :-D

The 165p can be controlled via apex or other aquarium controller. The 165p+ can be controlled through wifi so you can just use your phone. I met a fellow reefer here in new york that has the 165p+ when i bought some live rocks off him for my 220. So things has progressed in the reefing hobby. I like progress but i want this hobby to be affordable where parents can set up a tank for a few hundred dollars for their kids and still have money for rent or mortgage. This is hobby remember.

thank you for the concern. But I am NOT taking people's advice that's what this post is for. Gathering info. I already purchased the light. So I did what I want. But I did it for color. Corals are awsome under my t5s. Just want the pop. I'm gonna find out either way for myself. Just wanna get some peoples experience. :-)
