New Live Rock From KP Aquatics

Theyre generally small as hitch hikers and will run from stick, etc BUT will come out for a piece of shrimp. You will also notice clean up crew Empty shells as they will eat all the snails, shrimp, crabs, etc

Probably around dusk tonight I’ll put in a small chunk of shrimp onto a toothpick and watch it and see if anything does come out

Look who came out to say hi in broad daylight

Thank You Ron, I liked my TBS just thought it was heavy/dense . Best Live rock ever for me was Haitian . Doubt you can get it any longer. I got mine out of a dealer in New Orleans.

I like my KP rock, but mine was and still is infested with fireworms. Just when I think they’re gone I find another one. I’ve had the rock for almost a year now and it is still in a QT tank. At this point I don’t think I will every get to use it in my main display.

Wow that super sucks. Maybe get something known to eat fireworms? I’ve heard the coral banded shrimp (I think they’re called) eats bristles worms so maybe that would work

Arrow crab eats bristle worms. Coral banded is scavenger

Not good. 4 lined and melanurus wrasse I believe eat these and possibly arrow crab which eats bristles like candy

That's a shame Ken. But after my experience with TBS live rock, the only way I'd use wild LR from the ocean is if I was doing a 100% natural tank or a 100% local tank and potentially having some bad hitchhikers on the rock was OK. But if I'm doing a real reef tank and corals are what's important to me, then I start with LR from a friend or an LFS or even better, with some dry rock I have in storage in my garage!

At least you know, this is freshly picked with all the bells and whistles that occupy the ocean.

The rock is really nice, but I’m not sure if I’ll ever get it out of QT. I do have a 14 gallon nano that I will be setting up in a few months. Maybe the rock will go in that tank.

Last night I went looking to see what might be lurking. I found a small fireworm and a bobbit worm. I was able to get the fireworm. The bobbit was way too fast. I took the corals that were in the tank and moved them to another tank. So there is only the LR in the tank. It’s only a 9 gallon tank. I do have some Fendbendazole which is a dewormer. Maybe it’s time to break out the big guns.

My plan was to get 10 lbs of ocean LR quarantine it to get rid of the bad stuff and use it to seed my 2 new tanks. Well that plan didn’t work out. Lol.

That’s very unfortunate. An infestation of fireworms AND a bobbit worm. How much more until you break lol.

I’ve heard putting the rock in high salinity water for a certain amount of time will bring out all the big guys out of the cracks and crevices

Remember that thing I said was in the rock that could either be an anemone or coral ? I moved the rock around a bit yesterday and now I can see it’s sweeper tentacles. Holy cow those things are Long. I’ll try to get a pic

Also these guys come out every once in a while and say hi

I've seen tunicates like that when snorkeling in the Keys. More often than not, tunicates are very difficult to keep alive in a tank, much like most sponges.

Good luck.
