I will be getting live rock shipped in water and I would like some advice:

Should I give the rock a bath in 1.035+ sg saltwater or should I just put it in as is and put traps in to catch crabs I don't want?

I wonder if submerging in that kind of water for a minute or so might harm beneficial life forms I would like to keep. I would like to draw on experiences others have had with this. Perhaps an Arrow crab would help with such things. Perhaps some of you have other ideas, like don't worry about it?

People like the life on real live rock. Its why you use it. You will get some pests. Most people deal with them as they come out of hiding

I plan on getting some soon and will keep as much alive as possible. Otherwise just get dry rock.

When I got mine live rock is just rinsed the rocks in a 5 gallon of fresh saltwater and into the tank it went. I trapped 3 mantis shrimp that was pest I found in my rock. I did get 13 red matrix crabs.

As you add corals and fish you’ll get all the usual suspects anyway. Chill.

I guess I am not as confident the mantis shrimp will go into the trap. If they are small I am thinking the fish might take care of them anyway; that is, when I get fish.

Simply place in a clear container with tank water and allow the rock to sit. With no water movement, many curious hitchhikers will come out to explore. Creepy crawlers are some of the fun of live rock
