Join us for the first episode of "Let's Talk Reef" - a Livestream for reefkeepers where we will discuss the latest news in the reef aquarium hobby, new products from us as well as others in the industry, info on how to have a great reef, and of course tips on using your Apex and other Neptune Systems gear. We will also be taking questions so leave them in the comments on the livestream - but be easy on us this week, this is our first one so it may be a little rough around the edges!

-I think the Tech tips would be better as it's own segment and youtube playlist bi-weekly then tied in with the live stream so we can easily search for them and find them rather then trying to remember which Q&A we saw it in.

-Interesting approach with this as you guys are obviously aware one of the biggest criticisms leveled against you guys has been communication, specifically with the Trident, so we'll see how it all works out.

-Just my personal opinion, but I really felt like you guys took an unnecessary shot across the bow at UWC and Purge. Checking their thread on here, they're having mixed results at the moment and still trying to work with folks who are reporting failures to figure out why their new products isn't working in all environments yet. Seems you guys would be able to relate to that after the Apex 2016 launch. As a viewer/consumer I would prefer to see less of that kind of stuff. I have no skin in the game with the product, haven't tried it, don't need it so those are just my thoughts as an outsider who is following their thread like many reefers are.

Thanks for the feedback. It is definitely helpful.

I think you possibly missed the purpose of the AEFW segment. It was intended to explain that the key is not to get them in the first place because solving the problem after you get them is a nightmare. My discussion of Purge was to basically share the experience from one, highly respected, long time reefkeeper to show that (unlike interceptor) there is no proven silver bullet yet if even he (among others) could not get rid of them. Again this was done to reemphasize how important it is not to get them in the first place. I also think that it is OK to be skeptical of (especially new) products we pour into our tanks. I firmly believe too many hobbyists pour too many “answers in a bottle” into their tanks. I probably could have explained that aspect a bit better.

I totally understand where you're coming from @Terence and watched that segment a few times before commenting. I'm a religious over dipper, waaaay longer and way more strength then the bottles suggest. I just didn't feel you presented it in a fair manner to the company and the product.

Look at it this way, if BRS were to do a segment on the first 2016 APEX they received and it had some of the problems that that thing had at launch, I think you guys would have been pretty upset with them and I'm also pretty sure BRS wouldn't have risked the relationship to even publish that video until you guys got more of the bugs worked out.

In this case, you guys don't have any relationships like that you necessarily HAVE to worry about, but you may consider speaking to @randyBRS or @Ryanbrs about just how strong a voice you're going to have in the community by putting something like that on video. There are honestly just a ton of people who are going to watch the video, decide purge is junk and never bother regardless of if it is improved or not.

So yeah, I totally get it, don't get them in the first place. I just don't think you needed to or should have gone further than just saying something along the lines of, "some people are having success with purge other's are not, here's an example of Sanjay's experience."

Outside of that part of it, I really want to re-emphasize that I would like to see Teck Talk wrapped into it's own mini show and not part of the Q&A as I really think it could be a valuable resource for the Apex community.

Thanks for the feedback. We will see where all this leads. We are just one episode into it.

I have a feeling a slice of the more expert reef keepers (a high percentage of the population on R2R as compared to the community in general) will feel a lot of the content is too elementary for them. But having as much face to face and FB interaction that I do through the year I see how many don’t know these things and want to soak up more.

We also do the tech stuff later in the show to give the audience time to build.

We also will be doing jump-to links to the tech content of the shows that will be shared when appropriate and even in the descriptions of the shows if someone wants to jump ahead to that topic.

For now at least, there are no proven efficacy, proven safe, easy to use, in tank eradication products for AEFW. I hope we get there some day and have something as easy as interceptor to use (albeit hard to acquire).

No and again @Terence I know I've been hard on you through the years here, but that's not my intent here. I was just trying to give you my "gut reaction" to how I felt after watching it.

I actually really liked it and as long as you continue to put it on youtube I'll just sub your guys youtube channel. I'm really happy to see you guys making the move to be more communicative. I also think jump links would at least help.

I know often times watching the BRS stuff they do, it will be geared for more "experienced" reefers, but we see a lot of carryover into newer reefers as well that aren't ready for that level of experienced keeping. I would bet you guys end up with a similarly diverse audience. I do appreciate and see the effort being made though to be more open and I think that's what I took away most from Episode 1.
