New maintenance item!

yesterday i woke up to the noise of a gurgling fish tank. during the night, my skimmer got choked of its air supply and over flowed. unfortunatly, the water didnt flow back into the sump like you would want and ended up on the outside of my sump draining the sump enough to where it could no longer return to the display. (sump is in the garage so water on the floor not that big of a deal. maybe 4 gallons).

turns out that salt creep worked its way up the air hose of the skimmer and for some reason it had broke free and completly filled the air hose with salt. enough that i had to forcefully blow it out.

anyways, looks like something i will be looking at more often and it also gave me an excuse to clean the skimmer.

Yah I clean the venturi on my skimmer every time I clean the collection cup. Just so I know its running at peak performance. Glad you didn't have any water damage, I wish I could put my sump in the garage!

When Kevan and I were looking at mods and ways to improve our SWC skimmers, we discovered that taking the airline tube off and running really hot water through it helped tremendously. Not only for salt creep issues, but dust as well. I think I will do that tonight.

I find myself checking the air tube on my skimmer often.... and if i dont hear it gurgling like it should i give it a good burst of air through it, because its clogged up on me before but oddly when i choke the air tube it doesnt overflow the skimmer cup.....

There are ups and downs to having sump in garage......

I wish I could put my sump in the garage!
