New Maxima Clam - is this Pinched Mantle?

Hi all,

I've got a pretty new reef tank going (2 months in) and I went to add my second clam which is a maxima yesterday (first is a Squamosa that's doing great). The Maxima looked great in the store when I got him but hasn't opened up at all since I put him in. Water params are good. He's high on the rocks and getting good light but not opening much at all. I'm concerned this is the Pinched Mantle disease I've read about. I was going to do a Fresh water dip but wanted to see if I could get someone to ID this as PM for me before I did it as I don't want to stress him out further if I'm just being paranoid. Thanks all!

Welcome to R2R!!

How is the clam looking today? I would advise against a FW dip for now. I think it may be stressed from the new environment.

I believe skinz78 recommends running carbon hard for a week to see if it improves before FW dipping. Read up on some of his posts/threads here on R2R.

Yeah, read Skinzs post before which was great btw! I have been running new carbon which i should have said earlier, sorry. I think Seahorse is right that it may be acclimation as he's looking a bit better and the mantle is looking better. I think I was just paranoid as the Squamosa did so well right out the gate that I expected the Maxima to follow suit

I'm just going to keep an eye on him and hopefully he continues opening up. No fwd for now. Thanks all for the help!

It's not PM, I wouldn't dip it ether. What fish and inverts do you have? How did you acclimate it to your water and lights?

2 months old is not old enough for a tank to add clams. I'd recommend holding off till the system is at least 6 months old to add any more.
