Hello All,

I have been in the hobby for some time. I had to take a four year break. I am currently building a new system. I want it to be the 'nano sps grower'. My water parameters are perfect. I haven't introduced a sump + refugium yet on account of 0 nitrates and assuming that phosphates are low on account of no/low algae.

Help solve this:
- SPS bleaching going on last two days.
- 20G tank, bare bottom, with water from aragonite substrate cycled tank.
- Within 24 hours kH went from 10 to 22 to 15 now. I'm doing 20% water changes every 24.
- The substrate tank will become sump + refugium for the 20.
- Koralia 850 and 240 powerheads running simultaneously although I have a Hydor wavemaker. It's crap. Don't buy it. Save your money and buy the Tunze, or go to your local electric store and buy the parts to build your own Hydor wavemaker.

Thanks,
Eren

LOTS going on.

Welcome!

oh. ***. I think I accidentally switched the waste and filtered outlets on my RODI system. Yuup that would explain everything. 100% water change later, things are looking betterish.

What else can cause elevated KH... mine never goes below 15... my other parameters are perfect... 75g tank 3 months old with mixed coral and about 10 small fish

pH additives especially homemade (baking soda) will shoot kH >20.
You might want to give this a shot= 50% water change with arrowhead distilled water mixed with Red Sea or Brightwell or another good brand. Airate & let the water mix for at least a day before you slowly (air hose works) add the new, soft water to your 15kH. Trust me I brought mine from 22 back to 9 within a few hours of the incident, so it works!

Thank you all for the warm welcome! I am starting a coral propagation project and your continued assistance will be much appreciated!

*Nice to meet you Eren!* It sounds like you just new to get your system more established and stable. Is your tank fairly new?
