Hi All!
Getting back into the hobby again but I'm on a well this time for household water. Before setting up my RO/DI system, I'd like to test my water so as to know what I'm dealing with. I have a softener and believe I need to test and plumb into AFTER the softner for new RO/DI system. My question is, what should I have the water samples tested for?
Thank you all in advance!

you can try contacting your township to see if they do water testing or whomever collects your septic tank, otherwise I'm not sure if a Triton ICP test would be able to tell you anything.

Hello and welcome to R2R! I'm on a well. Test for TDS = Total Dissolved Solids. The national average has a rather wide range from 100-600 or so. The lower the better. This will determine how many stage RO/DI filter setup you will need. Other concerns will vary with your location: silica, organic compounds, etc. Check out the videos on BRS Bulk Reef Supply webpage on RO/DI. Lots of very helpful info there to prep your purchase. And of course, you can call them as well. Very helpful with lots and lots of knowledge. Highly recommend them. https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/bulk-reverse-osmosis-filters-systems/reverse-osmosis-systems.html
I would especially ask them about plumbing before your planned softener or after the softener.

If you take a water sample to your local county ag extension office and just tell them you want a water quality test done they will test for basically all the things. You can customize your RODI based on that.

Being on a well myself I have CO2 issues as well as silicate issues.

Welcome to R2R! There's definitely people here that are on well water that may be able to help you on that. Tds would be the first thing to check along with figuring out whether to plumb in the rodi unit before or after the softener. I'm not sure on that?

Test the ph of the water before the softener for co2 and also after the softener.

Anything the water softener does will be removed from by the rodi particulary the membrane. It appear s it’s helpful to the mambrane.

Most with high co2 are encouraged to aerate the water. (The softener mat donsome of this for you) A drum to let it settle and let the gas escape (some use an airstone and the rodi booster pump in the drum to the rodi unit.

If you use azdesertrat in your searches you’ll find an abundance of water awnsers.

Welcome!
