New Member From Boise Idaho

Hey everybody, the names Sean.
I have been a pretty active member on Nano-Reef for a few years now and decided it was time I join up on Reef2Reef

I started this hobby back in so-cal when i went to tongs down in Westminster (not even expecting to start up) and a nice little lady hooked me up with a biocube 12, sand and rock. and thats when my addiction began :rockon:

That tank lasted maybe 6 months before i upgraded to a 24 biocube, then went to a solana 34 for awhile then i went to a 60 cube for a year.

Now im in the processes of setting up a 150 Gal 4x2x30

My favorite fish are my 2 black ice clowns and the mandarin dragonet. ( I have lots of favorites )

Hopefully ill be starting a build thread for my 150 soon. Im in the process of making the stand for my 150. Just finished all the trim and molding and sanding. Hopefully ill be coating it in primer these next few days and get my tank on the stand this weekend or by next weekend at the latest.

Ill be running 2 Radion Gen2 pros over the tank, and debating if i should maybe add 4 bulbs of t5s.. Anyone have opinions ?
Also debating about using the fluval sp4 as a return pump or if i should use the fluval sp6 pump.

Ill be making a diy 40 breeder as my sump. Ill have a space for a 7 inch filter sock and my protien skimmer close to it. and use the rest of the space for my refugium.

Ill be using the carib sea life rock, and using acrylic rods and cement to make some awesome rock work (hopefully) Im picky when it comes to aqua scaping.

still debating on going 1-2 inchs or 4-6 inchs of sand

Welcome to R2R!!! I would go with some t5 supplementation. I think it give the best look. I personally like my sandbed on the shallower side so I would go with 1-2". Best of luck with the new set up. Looking forward to seeing your build thread

Thanks for the Welcoming, Ill probably go with a 2 inch sand bed the more I think about it.

Im trying to think of the best way to supplement that t5s. Im still not sure if im going with a hood or not for the tank.

I live in Oregon but for a while my wife's parents lived in Boise. I think its a great place to live. Have your ever heard of GARF? It is a Boise company that was active years ago in the reef business. I think the owner just died but the place is still selling on the internet. If they are still open, its a great tour. Some of what they do is not considered main stream or even correct, but their methods work for many. I once spent a day with "Leroy" the owner and he has a house filled with tanks, and sits on a hot springs.

When I was visiting Boise I went to 3 or 4 different shops. Corals4Cheap had the nicest high end stuff I saw (prices are a bit steeper than they once were a year prior). Worth checking out for sure.

I would add the t5s. From my reading many are going back to t5s or MH from LEDs due to color issues. Easy way to fix it is to add some ATI T5s to the LEDs to make up any spectrum the LEDs seem to be lacking. Do some reading on it but I'd say it's worth your while to add.

So you guys think this would work, I want to add some T5 supplement. and instead of buying a hybrid light, I could get a t5x8 bulb fixture gut 2-4 bulb space and add in my 2 radions.

I know corals4cheap very well. The owner is a great guy and by far the best selection of corals in the Boise area. I think his prices are pretty fair and decent but maybe that's because I'm from Cali and prices are steeper there

Sounds like a good plan to me.I am not familiar with return pump specifications so I would recommend posting your question here.
