Hello,

My name is Mike and I am a new member for the forum. I have been keeping freshwater aquariums for about 5 years, with the largest a 125 with my very "special" (and boy are they special acting) blood parrot cichlids.

About a year and a half ago my wife let me start into saltwater. After setting up my 55 and being unable to wait, I went and bought my 5 fish. Within the next month, I lost them all but one blue chromis. I was devastated and literally waited with one fish in the tank to die so I could just tare it down. The one lone fish survived for one year! It was so sad to just see him so lonely in the tank by himself. So I decided to restart, and to do it right! I did water changes, got my parameters all correct, and got myself two clownfish! They are thriving, so I bumped up to a goby as well as a flame hawk fish. With that as my current stock I decided to take the dive into corals. I didnt want to start with softies, so I did all my reading, felt prepared and purchased some coral from Live Aqaria. Everything seems to be going smoothly so I saw on facebook that there was this 8 hour sale on Reef2Reef through their forum, so I checked it out, and boy did I LOVE IT! It was exciting and I was able to purchase a lot of the LPS I was interested in! (dont tell my wife!). So now I am hooked and I look forward to interacting with you all on this forum!

P.S. I live in Southern Maryland, the closest saltwater store is over an hour away so if anyone from near Charles County Maryland is active here I would love to chat!

Welcome home, you will love it here!

Let’s see pics of your tanks! :)

Hi Mike! Welcome.
I’m in southern PA and work at/own an art supply and custom framing shop in Hagerstown MD. I’m currently on the hunt for local clubs and groups in a rasonable driving distance. I’ll let ya know what I find.

Welcome to R2R! Love your story, though sorry to hear you lost some fish at the beginning. I did the same thing. I converted my 55 gallon 3 years ago, and now have a thriving mixed reef. But when I started, I was impatient and ended up losing about $600 worth of fish in about a week. My friends warned me that “nothing good happens fast in a reef tank”. That experience taught me to respect this hobby and that going slow is one of the keys to success. I’ve learned a ton of great information on this forum. Enjoy!!! [emoji3]
