Hello Everyone.
My name is Tony. It's been about 15 years since I last had a saltwater tank and EVERYTHING has changed!
I am here to try and connect with people, find good deals, learn, and share ideas. I'm currently trying to plan out some tanks in the dining room that will be connected to a main sump/Engine room in the garage. I've already installed a utility sink and RO/DI system out there and just this morning picked up a few barrels I might use for RO and mixing. I am a husband and father of 2 young kids and I would love for them to experience some of the hobby with me. I am a very mechanical person but hate spending money so I will be trying to do everything on the cheap! I have the ability to weld and do wood working so I think I've convinced myself to try and do something different vs dropping a fat wad on a Cade 2100. I know the lights and misc. equipment will be $$ enough as it is.Feel free to reach out.

Hi Tony and Welcome Back to the hobby! Glad you joined. Fundamentals are still the same, so while it seems like a lot, in the things that matter most it has gotten better. You are going to fit right in here!
Have you considered starting your build thread? I found its a great place to document my tank's evolution for myself. I started tank first then joined, so I'm still finding myself going back collecting pictures & updating historically as well as current state. Once you create your first post in your thread and link it to your account, they will give you build badge (look left, under my ID). Its never to early, and from what you are already describing people are going to want to follow along.

DIY is awesome. It gives a person satisfaction and often a better end result than buying something ready made such as building a wooden stand instead of buying a stand made of particle board. That wood stand will cost half of what the particle board stand will, it will be twice as durable, and it’ll look better too. I hope you have a lot of success with your reef.

I definitely intend on starting a build thread in a day or so. I’m hoping people here will help keep me from making to many big mistakes. I honestly don’t even know what I want to do yet so I’m currently taking care of the basics. Shoring up the floor(even though it’s probably unnecessary for my home but better safe than sorry) and getting my water and mixing station ready. Kinda leaning toward starting with a smallish 60 gallon cube tank first while working on a long 200+ gallon tank at the same time. I’ll save the rest for the build thread.
