Hi I've just joined r2r and would appreciate some advice. I have set up a new seawater tank with live rock and live sand, this has been running for almost 2 weeks and I have suddenly got brown spots on the sand at the front of the tank and on the rocks. From looking at previous threads I'm thinking this is brown algae. Is it wise the remove this from the sand or leave it alone or should I be doing partial water changes. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to R2R Geoff :)

You in the first stages of the ugly tank from cycling, just let the tank cycle.

Welcome to R2R and thanks for singing up. It is most likely Diatoms - very normal for a new tank. Maybe post a picture if you can capture one.

I just cycled my tank for almost 8 months before putting a single coral in. Completely worth it caus emy past tanks have gotta algae an breakouts from not being patient in the cycle process. Use none tds rodi water mix with some good sea salt. I recommend sea salt pro. An just let you tank go with regular water changes. Also pictures an sizing of your tank would help
