Hello, i have had for and reef tank for about 15 years. Mostly success. Recently my nitrate have gone sky high. 200 plus... i change ro water every week 10-20%. The ro source read zero nitrates. but can't get the tanks numbers to come down. using posban, ploy ball reactor and good skimmer... feed once per day. i get the hing number in all 3 tanks. ( 30 gal fresh water)... about to break it all down and start over.

Hi, welcome to R2R!! What test kit are you using and how old is it? How is the livestock reacting? Have you experienced any losses?

Looks to me you have a very heavy bioload with all them fish. Probaly with there waste and overfeeding is causing you problems. Have you tested your ammonia?

Welcome to Reef2Reef! Stay long, post often and keep the pictures coming!

Nitrates are just something we all deal with at some point in the hobby. There are many different ways to deal with them from water changes to sulfur denitrators and carbon dosing. Just stick with it and the issues will get corrected, but it may take a little time to get there.

using mardel 5 in 1 test kit... 3 months old.. aqua c skimmer. live rock with mud in the refugium. posban reactor and the npx bio plastic balls.... fish are doing fine... all about 5-ten years old... they adapt.... lost seveal corals lately. afraid to replace until nitrates are down....
