Hello everyone I am Minerva and am very relatively new to the hobby.
I currently have a happy and healthy snowflake eel named nailo.
Today my dear friend and I got a lovely looking Green Brittle Star.
Thinking about naming it either Needle or Cthulhu not sure yet we are leaving it up to a poll.
Well looking forward to learning more about the life and growing along with the tank and it's new inhabitants. IMG_20150915_151256978.jpg

She and I are best friends and are currently sharing my mixed reef. She's new to the hobby, so I make most of the decisions, lol, but she learns fast.
In total we have a 150g tank...not sure how big the sump is....with a hippo tang, mata tang (a bit of an oops, but so far he's fine), snowflake eel, that big ol' brittle star in the avatar, and a lot of hermit crabs and some snails. I wanted to make a fresh start after I moved, so I haven't posted updates on it yet, but we got it up and running again...though the fish and eel are in the quarantine tank for a hypo treatment since I screwed up and didn't quarantine the mata *shot*

Reef's looking beautiful, though, and hopefully all the fish will be soon too. Gotta get some new pics!

LED lighting, Reef Octopus (180?) Skimmer, two good-sized Hydor powerheads.

The mata was my fault...I had never heard of it, just saw this tang I thought was beautiful, and we looked it up on the spot, and I somehow missed the fact that 6" was the size of the specimen, not the max size (20"...oops...) and I should never have put him in with the other fish until after he'd been quarantined alone.

So much for doing better. UGGGHHH. If I'm gonna introduce a newbie, I really need to practice what I preach. Anyway, I think I hijacked the thread...so...Minerva, take it away, dear <3

Welcome to R2R;)

From what I have read (didn't sleep last night out of excitement)
The wild caught ones are more predacious than those that are captive bred and raised. That also spot feeding them regularly is very needed. It will go after small fish especially ones that are dieing, slow or stationary, sick, and sleeping. They also have various ways of showing pre predation warning signs. So if you have small or sick fish that you may be worried about it is best to.leave them in a separate tank like a quarantine tank for them to recover or get mature in. Also if you constantly spot feed them things like squid, shrimp, krill, and silversides on a regular basis they will grow accustom to that spot getting food. I don't recommend feeding them things like silversides only an opinion because if they use their arms to taste and catch prey then you don't want them getting a taste to your swimmers....and considering this guy is a sifter and an invertebrate eater don't be surprised if your inverts go missing time to time.

So thus far we have it nice and fed and it is being very content in his little cave of live rock. Showing no signs of predation and in fact seems to like his meals like many of us do.....wants them fresh and in bed and seems to favor mussels. But still too early to tell for sure but I don't think we will have any problems with him.

Also thank you everyone for the warm welcome.

*Welcome to Reef2Reef @Minerva_Valdis !* Yeah,those green brittle stars pack a appetite.

That they do XD

The brittle's doing great.
We've had some issues getting the eel to eat this last couple of weeks, though he started out strong; we had to put everyone in hypo for ich and he hasn't liked that. We tried some live ghost shrimp yesterday and I'm pretty sure he got them, which is good. I also believe he took a little krill today. So things are looking up. n_n His tankmates, the blue tang (Blue) and the mata tang (Barrett) are doing good, on their one-week mark of no spots, eating well, and looking quite vibrant.
