I have new tank that I have setup and let cycle for 2 weeks before adding fish. Had water tested and all levels were perfect with a white cloudiness in the water. Was told that is good and that I could add fish. How long after adding fish will it take for water to become clear. Thanks in advance for every ones input.




Tank is biocube 16 with live rock and sand.

Cloudy water is usually a sign if a bacterial bloom. Are you sure the tank completed its cycle?

I agree it sounds like it could be a bacterial bloom, not necessarily bad, but not something I would use to gauge a cycle by. Looking at the picture of your tank, I would question whether it has fully cycled. Make sure to have some water handy for water changes and keep an eye on ammonia.

I had water tested at local aquatics store where the tank was purchased by very knowledgeable staff.

I would not add fish to that tank, I’d let time do it’s thing. 2 weeks isn’t very long for cycling a marine tank.

As others have said, 2 weeks is pretty quick for a cycle. What did you use to cycle your tank? You said you used live rock, but your picture looks like it was dry rock. It does make a big difference.

I would purchase your own test kits and wait a while before adding anything else. While cloudiness isn't necessarily bad, I wouldn't call it good. As @Crabs Mcjones said, probably a bacterial bloom. Some run their course, others are hard to get rid of. If you provide more information about your tank such as equipment and actual test result numbers, I'm sure someone will be able to give you good advice.

I agree with the others +1. 2 weeks is pretty fast. Get ready for some water changes and watch your test results. The cloudy tank is likely a bacterial bloom. Your tank has to catch up to its new bio-load. It will clear over time.
