Hello reefing world:
I have been in the reefing world for about 5 years. I first started the obsession when I decided to buy an all in one system (Red Sea Max 130D) from a coworker of mine at a great deal. The tank was in great conditions, with everything in great working conditions.
Here is a picture of the tank after at around a year old.

I was very lucky in the beginning, my tank cycled very quickly since I used live sand, as well as live rocks. As a newbie, like many others out there, after the tank cycled I started purchased my pair of clowns. Not a bad purchase!!! However, what I did next was the rough welcome that most experience when not listening to advice. I went out to a close by LFS and purchased a flame angel. Then a small yellow tang, small blue tang, and a couple more that I don’t remember. As you might imagine, the fish got ich, and every single one of them died. At that point, I decided to do it right, and left my tank without fish for 3 months. In the meantime, I bought 2 cleaner shrimps and 2 blood shrimps, plus many small frags for the tank. The tank proper beautifully from that point on. I instructed my wife with the process of introducing fish to the tank, and gave her the power to stop fish purchasing. I needed to be controlled by outside forces this time around... lol. This time, I bought another pair of clowns, waited a few weeks, the little by little bought a six line wrasse, a royal gramma, yellow tail damsel, and got a neon dottyback and a tomato clown fish as a gift. Everyone lived for the next 3 years very happy in the tank. Along the way I upgraded my stock lighting to a Steve’s LED system with a distribution of LEDs that I designed myself based on a lot of research and learning. My corals started experiencing incredible growth. Here is a picture of tank at around 3 or 4 years old:

As you can see, every corner of the tank was full of corals. I literally could not add anything else, and the corals began competing for real estate.
Earlier this year, after many months of passively looking online for Red Sea fish tanks for sale locally, I ran into a RS 425XL tank fully operational, being sold with everything inside for $2300. The tank was a year old, and in perfect conditions. I finally broke down, and after some serious negotiations, and got the entire tank for $1500. Moving it from a 3rd floor without elevators was a nightmare, but it got to its final destination safely. After making sure that everything that came with the tank survived the move, I introduced my members to its new home.

I did lose a three fish in total after all was set and done due to an ich out-brake. However, most of the fish are doing fine now.
I look forward to becoming an active member to this awesome family...

Welcome! Very nice tank! :)

Welcome to R2R!!:) What a great adventure so far with reefing, and your system look great.

Welcome! Your tanks look incredible :) I think it's common these days to want to cram all the high-end SPS you can into a tank, but your tanks are great examples of how beautiful a tank can be even when it's not dominated with SPS!

We would love to hear how you achieved your success. You should start a tank build thread (even though these tanks are already built) to let us know how you reef :)

Welcome to R2R! What an absolutely beautiful tank! Great background into your hobby experiences, which many a reefer have experienced as well. It's very hard to restrain ourselves in the beginning, and in some ways we don't know any better. I'm sure you would have some wisdom to share with others starting out on stocking lists and going slow!

Tank looks great in that room!
